American Pavement Preservation was pleased to work with an out of state general contractor on a project here locally in Las Vegas, Nevada. The project was one that entailed a different scope of work an expansion to one of our local cemeteries. The area was used for the public and needed an extra touch of quality and appearance that our client requested for their clients.
American Pavement Preservations worked with two subcontractors for this project. The first subcontractor was a grading contractor, the second one was a concrete contractor. Together with American Pavements Asphalt Paving crew and the years of asphalt and pavement experience combined with the knowledge and professionalism of all, the team completed an outstanding final product that we are all proud of, especially the client. The client is very happy with everyone’s cooperation, patience, and extra care to make this a nice-looking asphalt area.
The first phase of work that was needed was to cut and fill the existing subgrade material. This was done by the grading contractor. The general contractor had previously had the area surveyed so that we can achieve the correct elevations and drainage for this area of work.
The second phase consisted of importing a Type II base material and then spreading and grading the Type II material so that the new 24-inch concrete roll curb has a level to grade foundation.
Phase three the concrete subcontractor set and formed to the correct elevations and direction provided by the survey team. The concrete contractor then poured the concrete and trawled shaping rolling curb to perfection as per the plan. This was completed in three sections, removing the form boards as the concrete cured.
Phase four was for the grading contractor to mobilize back on site to begin final grading. They placed Type II base material and graded material in place according to the survey team and according to the plans. The grading well and the concrete roll curb are critical scopes to ensure proper drainage to the area.
The final phase was to pave asphalt on the area. American Pavement Preservation’s asphalt paving crew placed a three-inch asphalt mat using an ½ inch hot asphalt mix for this project. The ½ inch asphalt mix has a smaller aggregate size providing for a smoother final appearance, ease of compaction, and creating a more pleasing appearance to the eyes of the general contractor, client, and the public.
